Bacon, Eggs and Eagles – Byron Maxwell Explains Himself

facebooktwitterreddit

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Byron Maxwell caused quite the commotion last week following his Super Bowl 50 “guarantee.” Maxwell got a chance to explain himself to the media yesterday and cleared up his comments, explaining that he made the statement based on his belief and confidence in the team that the Eagles have heading into 2015. There’s nothing wrong with confidence but there has to be a certain line you shouldn’t cross either…and that line is very thin. Inside Linebacker Mychal Kendricks also discussed his unclear future with the team and the trade rumors surrounding his name as well. All that and more in this morning’s serving of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!

Maxwell Explains Confidence In “Guarantee”Bo Wulf of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"Byron Maxwell created plenty of headlines last week when he “guaranteed” that the Eagles would make the Super Bowl this year.“I heard about the Philadelphia media and what comes along with it,” Maxwell said Tuesday when asked about the response to his comments to The MMQB. “So I was a little surprised, but then again, I kind of expected it.”Maxwell managed to throw cold water (there was plenty of it to go around on the practice field Tuesday) on the “guarantee” without backing down from his confidence."

Kendricks Focused On Being His BestDave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"Business is business. When reports swirled prior to the 2015 NFL Draft that the Eagles might be open to trading linebacker Mychal Kendricks, there was only one thing for Kendricks to do: Keep working hard and retaining his focus.“It didn’t bother me at all,” Kendricks said Tuesday. “Whatever happens, happens. I’ve got no hard feelings toward any of the business moves made. I think of myself as a businessman as well and I would do what’s best for the team if that’s what I feel. I’m going to do my job and that’s to play football and to be the best I can be on the field and off the field.”"

Potential Playmakers?Tommy Lawlor of IgglesBlitz.com

"Walter Thurmond has a chance to start at Safety for the Eagles. The first reason for that is simply that the Eagles don’t have a very good situation at the Safety position. Right now you might label the group Malcolm Jenkins and the 5 Heartbeats. After all, having a pulse is about all it takes to be in the mix for a starting gig there.I’m fascinated by Thurmond as a Safety. The more I think about it, the more he reminds me of Damarious Randall, who the Eagles supposedly liked a lot. Randall played in the slot a lot in college. Thurmond has played outside corner and in the slot. They can cover. Both lack ideal tackling skills. Both have good ball skills."

Agholor And Matthews “Like Twins”Bo Wulf of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"Does this sound familiar? An early-round rookie receiver impressed his teammates at the NovaCare Complex with his work ethic and attention to detail. This rookie seems mature beyond his years and, on the field, is quickly opening eyes as a playmaker. Last year, it was Jordan Matthews. This year, it’s Nelson Agholor. The striking similarity isn’t lost on Matthews.“Me and Nelson, we’re like twins almost,” Matthews said after Tuesday’s Organized Team Activity. “He jumps right in with me and Josh (Huff) … The dude is one of the most explosive guys on the team already. So his work ethic speaks for itself, so I think we’re real compatible. I love spending time with the guy, not just here but also outside of football. Great personality, I know the city’s going to love him. I just can’t wait to continue to get to work with him and see what he can do on the field.”"

WR Austin Healthy, Ready To CompeteDave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"There was nothing unusual about the play at the time, other than it was the first NFL completion for Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel. For Miles Austin, though, days later after emerging from the hospital, everything changed.Second down, 7 yards to go for Cleveland in a going-nowhere game last November 30 in Orchard Park, NY against the Buffalo Bills. Cleveland trailed 20-3 and replaced quarterback Brian Hoyer with Manziel, and the NFL world took notice. On Manziel’s second play from scrimmage after a 3-yard scramble, he faked a handoff right and rolled left. Manziel flipped a pass to Austin, who turned up the field and headed for a first down. Ten yards past the line of scrimmage, Austin leaped over defensive back Da’Norris Searcy and landed in bounds and was promptly knocked down and out of bounds by linebacker Preston Brown."

This may sound cheesy but I love seeing players put in extra time to get better, especially younger players that still have a lot to prove. Here’s are some pictures that the Eagles’ official Twitter shared with us yesterday following OTAs of various players getting extra work in following practice:
