Bacon, Eggs and Eagles – Jeff Stoutland Excited About O-Line

While many are concerned about the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line due to the unit’s age and injury problems, the leader of the unit isn’t as worried. Offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland is very confident in the team’s starting unit, even claiming that the team has two left tackles in Jason Peters and Lane Johnson. Given how talented those two players are, that isn’t such an outlandish claim either. Defensive backs coach Cory Undlin also discussed the fierce competition the team will have in their secondary during this offseason as well. All that and more in this morning’s serving of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!

"Jeff Stoutland is holding court, and when that happens he’s usually snorting and snuffing and animated and passionate talking about his favorite subject: The Eagles offensive line.It is an offensive line that has some question marks after an injury-riddled 2014. Left guard Evan Mathis, who has played in the last two Pro Bowls, hasn’t attended any of the offseason workouts or Organized Training Activities. Longtime right guard Todd Herremans left in free agency and signed with Indianapolis. The Eagles didn’t use a pick on the offensive line for the second consecutive draft weekend."

Undlin: Tough Decisions Ahead For DB GroupBo Wulf of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"Cory Undlin is thrilled to be with the Eagles as defensive backs coach, presiding over a group that saw more change than any other position this offseason. But Undlin is also not one to sugarcoat things, like, for instance, why he chose to join Chip Kelly’s staff.“I was fired, didn’t have a job,” Undlin said. “We got fired and then the next day I got a phone call from (Eagles defensive coordinator Bill Davis), he said, ‘Hey, man, I would love for you to come out.’ I said, ‘I’d love to come out there,’ and came out two days later, met with Chip and Billy for, I don’t know, six hours in the building here, was fortunate enough to be offered a contract and signed it on the spot … I was looking for an opportunity to coach somewhere and keep doing what I love to do and do it with passion and fortunately for me they offered me the job and there was no hesitation. There was no questioning it. I took it on the spot and flew back and packed my bags.”"

Shurmur happy to work with Bradford again – Zach Berman of Philly.com

"Before the Eagles traded for Sam Bradford in March, Chip Kelly turned to offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur for information about the quarterback from the time they spent together in St. Louis.Shurmur was Bradford’s offensive coordinator in 2010, when Bradford was offensive rookie of the year and almost led the Rams to the playoffs. Then Shurmur accepted the head coaching job in Cleveland, and Bradford went through two more offensive coordinators while dealing with injuries in three of the next four seasons."

Eagles’ Duce Staley rebuffs racial criticisms about Chip Kelly – John Smallwood of Philly.com

"IF YOU READ only about the Trojan Horse, you might be entertained, but you would not get the full tale of the Trojan War.Both are great stories. So yesterday, Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley knew one of the topics coming at him would be about former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy and the firestorm he caused by implying head coach Chip Kelly got rid of him because he got rid of “all the good black players.”Not only had Staley, a former Eagles running back, worked closely with McCoy for the last two seasons, but he also is in the position of being the only African-American lead assistant coach on Kelly’s staff."

Davis: More linebackers means more packagesLes Bowen of Philly.com

"Eagles defensive coordinator Bill Davis is reluctant to claim huge improvement for his beleaguered unit, despite major offseason upgrades. Davis, speaking to reporters Wednesday for the first time since the end of the 2014 season, said he and his players have a lot of work ahead.“On Sundays really is when you can tell,” Davis said, when asked if this is the best group “on paper” he has had to work with. “I can’t answer that intelligently. I can say I like the way the group’s working. I can say I like the way the growth’s happening, the depth of understanding we have right now, but until we hit Sundays, I don’t know where we are. That first game is the starting point.”"

It’s great to see Eagles starting outside linebacker Connor Barwin get some recognition for his outstanding season in 2014, he was named to NFL Network’s Top 100 list which is voted on by the players. Although…he should have been a bit higher, ha!
