Bacon, Eggs and Eagles: Byron Maxwell Is The Total Package

facebooktwitterreddit

When the Philadelphia Eagles signed cornerback Byron Maxwell to a 6-year, $63 million contract, many believed head coach Chip Kelly was out of his mind. Maxwell was a solid cornerback, probably the best on the market in free agency but that was a bit too high of a contract to give him…or so they thought. Maxwell has already proved his worth by being an impressive player both on the practice field and off the field as well. He hasn’t had a chance to show his skills on the field yet but Maxwell is saying and doing all the right things. All that and more in this morning’s version of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!

Maxwell: Total Package For EaglesDave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"It took some time, Byron Maxwell admits, before it all settled in. His career change came suddenly, but as expected, on the first day of the NFL free agency period, when the Eagles reached out and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse and all of a sudden Maxwell was on a new team, in a new city and with a new professional responsibility.“It feels perfect now,” Maxwell said prior to the end of the Eagles’ mini-camp at the NovaCare Complex last week. “It’s all just what I wanted. I feel great here. But when it happens, you know, it happens fast. It’s a lot of change. So you have to get adjusted and it takes a few minutes.“Once I got here and was around the guys and the coaches, it felt natural and I felt at home very quickly.”"

Early Thoughts On Draft Class FitsDave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"It’s beyond too early to make any kind of projections for the 2015 Eagles draft class, but we’ve got a lot of time to kill before Training Camp, so why not take a look? In general, the draft class — and the rookie class in all — gained some strong words of praise from the coaching staff for their collective work ethic, commitment to learning and their retention of what they were taught in the classroom and on the field.Until the pads go on, we really won’t know much. Still, it’s just a projection, off-the-cuff at that, and later in the year we can look back and see how close this early opinion came to the truth for the Eagles Draft Class of 2015."

Darren Sproles: Zach Ertz will be ‘superstar’ for EaglesChris Wesseling of NFL.com

"Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz provided a glimpse of his potential with a franchise-record 15 receptions in a December loss to the Washington Redskins last season.Darren Sproles, who has been training with Ertz this offseason, believes there will be more where that came from in the future.“He has great hands, man,” Sproles said last week, via CSN Philly. “His hands and his route running are just great, really. He’s about to be a superstar.”"

Friends, family: Bradford has always been ‘a fierce competitor’Paul Franklin of PhillyVoice.com

"When Ben Bench visits the old neighborhood in Northwest Oklahoma City, in spring or early summer, he and childhood buddy Sam Bradford try and get in a few rounds of golf; generally at the Oak Tree Country Club in the suburb of Edmond. High school classmates at Putnam City North High School (Class of 2007), both were on the Panthers’ golf team.Bench played golf in college at Oklahoma City University. Bradford, of course, went on to play a little football at the University of Oklahoma. Both are now scratch golfers."

Ryan Mathews: Ready To Thrive For EaglesDave Spadaro of BleedingGreenNation.com

"Ryan Mathews has had more than his share of injuries. Ankle and knee problems limited him to 76 carries in 2014. A collarbone injured ended his 2012 campaign early. A groin injury and a calf injury limited Mathews in 2011 and an ankle injury shorted his 2010 year by four games.Too many hurts. Too much time on the sidelines. Franchise-type running backs don’t miss chunks of seasons with nagging injuries, and that’s why San Diego allowed Mathews, a former first-round pick there, to leave via free agency."

This is just a hilarious ode to everyone’s favorite Eagles’ hater Heath Evans. Fullbacks are people too!
