Can the Eagles get a full year of quality production from Zach Ertz?

Tight end Zach Ertz recently appeared in ESPN the Magazine for a spread in their annual “Body Issue”. He’s also constructed a great body of work on the field. The former second-round selection has amassed 247 receptions totaling 2840 yards and 13 touchdowns. That only tells part of the story however. What gets lost in Ertz’s statistics is the theory that the Philadelphia Eagles starting tight end has developed a reputation for being inconsistent.

Ertz’s brief NFL career, to this point, has been a tale of big-time performances in meaningless games and disappearing acts in games of more relevance. Eagles coaches and fans are hoping the 2017 season brings a complete body of work on the field. In years past, depending upon who you ask, there have been some disappointing outings. Last year’s displaced rib (that still sounds like an awful injury) may have contributed to the up-and-down season, but the 2017 season gives him a clean slate.

With no on-field activity to discuss, let’s reserve a moment and take an in-depth look at Mr. Ertz’s production over the years. We’ll then forecast the upcoming season. Let’s begin.
