0 snaps into Eagles career and one veteran is already on thin ice (but should he?)

Not looking great for him.

After an offseason with so many moves by the Philadelphia Eagles, the 2026 NFL Draft further complicated things, as recently signed veterans might not make it.

One of the interesting offseason moves discussed was the Eagles' decision not to re-sign edge rusher Jaelan Phillips. That led the Eagles to sign Arnold Ebiketie and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka in free agency to make up for it.

Philly didn't stop at edge rusher as they added two more during draft weekend. The Eagles first made a trade with the Minnesota Vikings to bring in 2024 Pro Bowler Jonathan Greenard as Phillips' official replacement, but also selected New Mexico edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby in the seventh round. Those two moves do not bode well for one new addition to the Eagles' roster.

Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is an early candidate to be cut in training camp

Tryon-Shoyinka had a promising start to his NFL career when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He racked up 13 sacks in the first three years as a solid rotational edge rusher.

After that, though, he got two sacks in 2024 with the Bucs, but that would be the end of his career there, as they did not pick up his fifth-year option. Last year, Tryon-Shoyinka played for the Cleveland Browns and was then traded to the Chicago Bears, despite posting only 22 tackles, two quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss.

Moving forward to his Eagles tenure, it does not look great for him as he has Greenard, Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith Jr., and Ebiketie ahead of him. Tryon-Shoyinka will have to compete with James-Newby for the final spot on the roster if the Eagles don't decide to add another veteran edge rusher in the months leading up to training camp.

As the Eagles inch closer to that event starting in July, things are not looking good for Tryon-Shoyinka to make the roster, and he will have a tough battle to make the team.
