Quarterback dilemma

Now fast forward to 2015.   The Philadelphia Eagles are rumored to be looking for draft prospect X and looking to consider trading for veteran quarterback Y.   The 2015 NFL draft holds far too few candidates who, as of the day of this article, are even projected to be draft quality (that’s ten players who are projected to be drafted through round 7 of the 2015 NFL draft).  If you need a review of the various scenarios that could play out for the Eagles in filling out there quarterback need, you can check it out here:

Of course that number of quality prospects can change, but there are currently at least that many NFL teams on the hunt for a signal caller.  So it’s a different position, but a similar place the Eagles find themselves in.  If only….  if only the Eagles could call up someone to come in an rejuvenate the players to refocus on some basic fundamental skill issues.  To restore good mechanics in training camp, which would allow the new quarterback coach to work with the players in setting up plays and advancing those basic skills.  If only Kevin Greene was a quarterback….

But there is someone who has THAT kind of reputation.  Known throughout the league as the “quarterback guru”  If you haven’t heard about this guy, you just haven’t been paying attention.  His methods are unconventional.  His dedication is admirable.  His reputation is impressive.  His knowledge is venerable.  But if you see George Whitfield Jr. , the “quarterback guru” is a 36 year old man who is clearly someone who takes care of himself.  He has been featured in an ESPN video documentary from August 31, 2013.

"The term “quarterback guru” has been used to describe me. But I don’t see myself as that. I look at myself as an engineer – a quarterback engineer."

Now, this is not a vote of no confidence in the recent hiring of Eagles quarterback coach Ryan Day. By all accounts, Ryan Day is an impressive and motivated quarterback coach who is certainly up to the task. But this is more than the day to day coaching aspects. This is an area of the team that simply needs a significant result as efficiently as possible. In short it needs a repeat of the 2014 pass rush in the 2015 quarterback production. It needs a quarterback guru… er…. quarterback engineer.
