Should Philadelphia Eagles Fans Believe In Chip Kelly?
The Philadelphia Eagles fan base is quickly dividing into two halves; those who believe in head coach Chip Kelly, and those who believe what he’s doing is crazy. Before we know it, the city of Philadelphia might have a civil war among fans on their hands.
After only two seasons and no playoff victories, the Philadelphia Eagles fanbase’s faith in Chip Kelly is higher than ever. The number who believe in him far outweighs those who don’t.
Despite all the controversial moves that Chip Kelly has done, there are those that still believe in the third year head coach even though he has no playoff wins to show for it. As the saying goes, “In Chip we trust.”

This begs the question, why does Kelly get so much support? What is with the Bill Belichick comparisons? In Belichick’s first two years in New England he had 16 wins to go along with one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history.
Looking back at what Kelly has done in his Eagles tenure, he has released, not traded, released, DeSean Jackson, traded away the franchise’s all-time leading rusher, LeSean McCoy, made a controversial trade sending away Nick Foles for an injury prone Sam Bradford, and the process is just beginning.
Those are four of the Eagles biggest pieces the last two seasons. Had Jackson, Foles, and McCoy not broken out in 2013 or Maclin not broken out last year, back to back ten win seasons doesn’t happen. Kelly believes that his system trumps all.
That’s not to mention all of the players that were great in college, particularly at Oregon, but haven’t done much in the pros that he has signed or drafted.
There is a difference between confidence and arrogance. The Eagles took on a dramatically different look in a matter of weeks; both offensively and defensively.
This is a college coach who has two ten win seasons, but no playoff victories to show for it. A college coach who was in a great position to make the playoffs in 2014, but choked down the stretch.
At one point, Football Outsiders had the Eagles with a 73.4 percent chance to make the playoffs last season, that was when they were 7-3. The Eagles went 3-3 the rest of the year, 1-3 in the final stretch.
Did I forget to mention, in reward for missing the playoffs, owner Jeff Lurie basically made Kelly the man in charge of everything. Howie Roseman is still around, but it is now Kelly who is the GM and gets to call the shots.
Since leaving Philadelphia, former Eagles receiver, Jeremy Maclin recently told the Philadelphia Inquirer, “I still believe in Chip. I think Chip’s going to do great things here. I have the utmost respect for him.”
While Maclin may believe in Chip Kelly, why should Eagles fans? What has he done to earn this sort of praise, to earn his position to make all of the decisions? This is a coach who is going to do things his way and his way only. It’s his way or the highway.
This is what I ask you Eagles fans. Which side are you on? Do you believe in Chip Kelly, and if you do, why? We have so much confidence in a coach with only two years of experience in the NFL which is crazy.
