Bacon, Eggs and Eagles – Byron Jones Should Be Eagles’ Pick
Just one more day until the 2015 NFL Draft, that’s it. All of the questions about the Philadelphia Eagles and what the team will do in the draft now that head coach Chip Kelly is in total control will soon be answered. We may finally have an idea of where exactly this team is heading and what to expect in the upcoming 2015 regular season. Some still believe there’s a glimmer of hope that the Eagles and Kelly move up to land Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. While others are set on the Eagles taking freakish athlete, Connecticut cornerback Byron Jones. All that and more in today’s serving of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!
Byron Jones and the Eagles: A Match Made at Pick 20 – Ray Butler of SidelinesandHeadlines.com
"Reason #1: What You Already KnowBy now, you’re probably well-aware of Byron Jones’s athletic endowment. You know he’s 6’1. You know he weighs 199 pounds. You probably know he has a 44.5 inch vertical, a 4.40 forty-yard dash time, and a 147 inch broad jump, which is a WORLD record. But let’s take Jones’s athleticism one step further. According to 3sigmaathlete.com, Jones’s SPARQ rating ranks in the 99.9 percentile amongst ALL CURRENT NFL PLAYERS, not just current cornerbacks or his fellow prospects in the upcoming draft. When slated against current individual NFL players, Jones’s adjusted pSPARQ rating ranks only behind Eagles guard Evan Mathis."
2015 NFL Draft: Eagles need to trade for Marcus Mariota, no matter the cost or what it takes – Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com
"Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is not a once-in-a-lifetime prospect to 31 NFL teams. He isn’t Andrew Luck coming out of Stanford. He isn’t Peyton Manning back in 1998. He has his flaws, and he has his question marks. The Eagles, however, are not the 31 other teams in the NFL.To the Eagles, Mariota is a once-in-a-lifetime prospect. With his close ties to head coach Chip Kelly, his taylor-made skillset for the Eagles’ offense and the team’s desperate need for a quarterback, it isn’t a stretch to say there might never be another Mariota. Not for this franchise, and not for this head coach."
Eagles Draft Thread: 4/28 – Sheil Kapadia of PhillyMag.com
"12:04 p.m.: Field Yates of ESPN.com lays out a potential trade scenario for the Eagles.Possible deal: Philadelphia trades quarterback Sam Bradford, pick No. 20, a 2016 first-round pick and a 2016 fourth-round pick for pick No. 2 Analysis: No matter how much Eagles coach Chip Kelly downplays the possibility of trading up for Mariota — the quarterback he recruited to Oregon as the perfect fit for his offense — speculation will persist until Mariota lands elsewhere. He would be the ideal piston to rev the Eagles’ offensive engine. Bradford was recently acquired in a trade, and I’m of the mind that the team genuinely believes he can be the long-term starter in Philly. But he’d likely need to be shipped off in this deal."
Eagles had deal for Dion Jordan before his suspension – Jeff McLane of Philly.com
"The Eagles had a proposed trade that would have sent a conditional late round draft pick to the Dolphins for edge rusher Dion Jordan, NFL sources said.ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported that the two teams were nearing a deal before Jordan was suspended for all of the 2015 season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy."
So are the Eagles getting Marcus Mariota or nah? – Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com
"It is going to be very difficult for the Eagles to land Marcus Mariota. No team has ever moved up from as far down as the 20th overall pick to as far up as the 2nd pick to draft a quarterback. Additionally, there are no shortage of teams in need of a quarterback, including the team (the Tennessee Titans) that would likely be trading out of the No. 2 spot where most envision Mariota being drafted. There are certainly obstacles galore, and personally, I’m not quite sure if “Mariota to the Eagles” is more likely to happen than not. However, at a minimum, the possibility of it has legs."
The Tennessee Titans’ general manager Ruston Webster and head coach Ken Whisenhunt spent some time with the media on Tuesday. But it seemed like they were really trying to sell the idea that they love Mariota…could it be a pitch to try and sell that second overall pick in trade talks? NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal though it “all sounds like nonsense.”
