Wide Receiver

Key Additions: Nelson Agholor

Key Losses: Jeremy Maclin

Verdict: (slightly) Regressed

This won’t be a popular sentiment, but I don’t believe the WR group will be much less effective than it was a year ago. The loss of Jeremy Maclin is of course a significant blow, but the addition of Nelson Agholor and the natural progression of Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff should help to soften the impact of his departure. The fact that all three receivers will serve as moveable chess pieces will be an asset to an offense that likes to vary its looks and creatively deploy its personnel to exploit mismatches. Aside from the young guys, the Eagles added Miles Austin and retained (for the moment) Riley Cooper. Though I wouldn’t expect any significant contributions from Cooper, some level of regression to the mean is possible if he hangs around, as his 2014 was undeniably awful. Austin on the other hand is a total unknown given his age and checkered injury history. Finally, I’d be remiss if I neglected to mention the talented UDFA prospects, Devante Davis and John Harris, who both have a chance at sneaking their way onto the team. The only issue here is that they’re likely both competing for the same spot.
