Bacon, Eggs and Eagles – Zach Ertz Eyeing A Bigger Role

Philadelphia Eagles third-year tight end Zach Ertz is eyeing a bigger role in the team’s uptempo offensive attack. Ertz has the talent to be a top tight end in the NFL but his struggles as a blocker have limited his snaps in Philadelphia. But following an offense in which he worked tirelessly to improve his blocking, Ertz is expecting a big jump in playing time in the upcoming season. It’s also clear that head coach Chip Kelly isn’t concerned about adding players with injury concerns, it could be due to the team’s focus on “reconditioning.” All that and more in this morning’s serving of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!

"PHILADELPHIA — Zach Ertz was a bigger factor in his second NFL season than the year before as a rookie.Ertz, a talented tight end, increased his output from 36 catches for 469 yards (13.0 average) to 58 for 702 (12.1) during the 2014 campaign. Now that he’s participating in all of the Eagles’ spring workouts for the first time — he missed due to the league’s college graduation rule and was limited a year ago with a strained hamstring — Ertz is healthy, more experienced and confident."

"Back in March, Chip Kelly was asked about the wisdom in trading for Sam Bradford, a quarterback who had played just seven games in the previous two seasons because of injuries.Kelly’s response, coupled with the other moves he’s made this offseason, seem to indicate that he believes the Eagles may have a competitive edge when it comes to gambling on players coming off of injury."

Duce was in Shady’s shoes, but he wore them better – Mike Sielski of Philly.com

"A former Eagles running back was asked Wednesday about his old team. He had left the Eagles a while ago, and he was bitter at the time of the departure, and probably had been bitter for a long time before then, too. Now he was fielding questions from reporters, but he didn’t particularly want to answer the questions, because he didn’t particularly want to talk about LeSean McCoy.“Our situations,” Duce Staley said, “are totally different.”"

"It’s certainly been an interesting offseason for the Philadelphia Eagles. Dissatisfied with last year’s 10-6 record, Chip Kelly has torn apart the roster in an attempt to avoid another epic December collapse. He traded away the franchise’s all-time leading rusher, LeSean McCoy, and swapped Pro Bowl quarterback Nick Foles for Sam Bradford, who never came close to fulfilling expectations in St. Louis. Kelly let star wideout receiver Jeremy Maclin walk in free agency and then dished out top money for DeMarco Murray and Byron Maxwell, each of whom plays exactly the style of football Kelly wants."

I’m a sucker for seeing official team accounts on Twitter interact with other teams, especially when it’s something funny. Here’s a hilarious picture that the Eagles’ official Twitter account sent in response to a Philadelphia Union tweet:
