Fantasy Football: 10 Eagles In ESPN’s Top 300 Rankings
It’s almost that time…fantasy football season is quickly approaching! For those of you that are as obsessed with fantasy football as I am, this is an exciting time of year. Most sites have started up mock draft lobbies where you can draft with other people and hone your skills for the upcoming fantasy season. But what we all really want to know is where do players on the Philadelphia Eagles rank?
According to ESPN.com’s current “Top 300” rankings for the upcoming season, the Eagles have 10 players on their list. That isn’t counting the team’s defense/special teams which is considered a position as well. But which players made the list and where do they rank? Here are the overall and positional rankings for each of the 10 players and defense/special teams from the Eagles that made the list, created by ESPN’s fantasy staff:
10. DeMarco Murray, RB PHI RB9
41. Jordan Matthews, WR PHI WR17
78. Nelson Agholor, WR PHI WR34
79. Ryan Mathews, RB PHI RB34
116. Zach Ertz, TE PHI TE9
125. Darren Sproles, RB PHI RB56
156. Cody Parkey, K PHI K6
179. Sam Bradford, QB PHI QB16
222. Philadelphia Eagles, DST PHI DST14
271. Josh Huff, WR PHI WR90
295. Riley Cooper, WR PHI WR97
There sure are a couple of notable things that standout regarding where the Eagles’ players rank on this list. Of course this isn’t a set list, so it is subject to change, but Murray’s ranking is surprisingly low. He was the highest scoring running back in 2014 and is set to be the top running back in a run-first, uptempo scheme. Although he likely won’t have a repeat performance of last season, Murray should definitely be a top five fantasy running back in 2015.
At wide receiver, nobody truly knows who the team’s top target will be. While ESPN seems to assume that Matthews will be the top wide receiver in head coach Chip Kelly’s spread scheme, Agholor could certainly put up the best numbers of any wide receiver on the Eagles’ roster. He’s a bit more versatile than Matthews and offers big-play ability which should equate to huge outputs in fantasy football. Huff seems to be rated low as well but that’s understandable given his underwhelming rookie season.
Zach Ertz is ranked as their 9th overall tight end which seems to be a fair ranking. Although Ertz has worked on his blocking in the offseason, it remains to be seen if that will actually translate to more snaps and targets on the field. If Ertz overtakes Brent Celek for the starting tight end job in Philadelphia, he could certainly vault into the top five at his position.
Sam Bradford is ranked criminally low, but that seems to be the case with quarterbacks in general this year. If he’s healthy, which is a major concern especially for fantasy football players, Bradford could be a top five quarterback. Given how quarterbacks have performed in Kelly’s offense through his first two seasons as the Eagles’ head coach, Bradford should be in for a big time statistical season in 2015.
Lastly, there’s the team’s defense that is ranked right where it should be as a middle of the pack fantasy option. But at kicker, Parkey is ranked as the sixth overall kicker despite finishing the 2014 season as the second best kicker in fantasy football. There’s nothing that makes me believe the Eagles’ offense will be any worse in 2015 so Parkey should be in for another impressive season.
What do you think about where the Eagles’ players rank on ESPN’s list? Which player are you most looking forward to drafting from the Eagles in your fantasy draft? Let me know in the comments below!
