Philadelphia Eagles Player Profile: Nelson Agholor

facebooktwitterreddit

Up next in my Philadelphia Eagles Player Profile or “PEPP” series is rookie wide receiver Nelson Agholor. In this series of post, I’ll discuss each and every single player on the Eagles’ current 90-man roster, in alphabetical order. For each player, I’ll discuss their career history, measurables, individual outlook for the Eagles in 2015 and their chance to make the final 53-man roster.

There sure is a whole lot of hype surrounding the first-round pick and rightfully so. Let’s take a closer look at what Agholor has to offer both on and off the field!

Career History

Obviously as a rookie, Agholor has no NFL experience but he did post some impressive numbers in college at USC. During his junior year in 2014, Agholor posted video game numbers, finishing the season with 104 receptions for 1,313 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Those numbers are absurd and he even returned two punts for touchdowns in 2014 as well, proving he isn’t just a “one trick pony” by any means. Agholor proved he was an explosive playmaker with the ball in his hands throughout his collegiate career and the Eagles are certainly hoping he can continue to do so in the NFL.

Measurables

Nelson Agholor’s measurables, according to Mockdraftable.com.

From a height and weight standpoint, there isn’t much that stands out with Agholor. But his 40-yard dash time is impressive a 4.42 and he has long arms as well at 32 1/4 inches. But what separates Agholor from other receivers is his play on the field. It’s ironic that his closest player comparison is eventual Hall of Fame wide receiver Reggie Wayne. Some have even dubbed Agholor as the “NFL’s next Reggie Wayne” but to see him compare that closely to him is eye-opening. Agholor is an outstanding route runner and is dangerous once the ball is in his hands, both skills should certainly translate to the next level.

Eagles’ Outlook for 2015

Although fellow wide receiver Jordan Matthews is getting all of the attention as Jeremy Maclin‘s potential replacement, there’s a good chance that Agholor will be the Eagles’ top wide receiver. Agholor proved in college that he can line-up in a variety of spots on the field including outside wide receiver, slot wide receiver, in-line tight end and even in the backfield. That type of versatility will make Agholor a dangerous weapon from day one in head coach Chip Kelly’s uptempo scheme.

The 2015 NFL Draft was the first in which Kelly had full control and he had his eyes on Agholor for quite sometime. Throughout the pre-draft process it was no secret that Kelly was all over Agholor, as he brought him in for a visit to Philadelphia as well as worked him out individually. Kelly will still make the first-round pick earn his snaps and spot as a starter but there’s no doubt in my mind he’ll be one of the team’s starting wide receivers when they open Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.

Chip Kelly’s #Culture Grade: 💯

Seriously, if Kelly could create a player from scratch, it’d be an exact copy of Agholor both on and off the field…just maybe a little bigger.

Chance of Making Final 53-Man Roster: 100%

Barring any injury which is obviously impossible to predict, Agholor will make the Eagles’ final 53-man roster. There’s even a good chance that he’ll be the team’s leading receiver in 2015. But let’s not put too much on his plate so early, after all it is only June.
