Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie fires back at LeSean McCoy

Former Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is still bitter about the way he was shipped out of town. We all know about McCoy‘s comments claiming that Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is a racist. While some thought that would be the end to McCoy ranting about his former coach and team, he somehow continues to go on and on…and on.

Well the owner of the Eagles, Jeffrey Lurie, met with the media earlier today and fired back at McCoy. Here’s what Lurie had to say, according to Josh Paunil of Birds 24/7.

Ouch, Lurie just put a dagger through McCoy’s heart. You often don’t hear about a professional athlete dealing with rejection but that seems to be what Lurie is hinting at given McCoy’s comments. It’s almost like “Shady” was the odd man out that wasn’t selected during a pick-up game. Now he’s just acting immature and proving exactly why Kelly and the Eagles decided to get rid of him.

It’s funny that you see players such as Jeremy Maclin, Trent Cole, Todd Herremans, etc. leave the team and not say a thing about Kelly. But players like McCoy and his best friend DeSean Jackson continued to bad mouth their former coach for quite some time. Yet that’s another story for a different day, let’s get back to McCoy’s comments.

In a story published on GQ.com just days ago, McCoy felt the need to comment on his replacement in Philadelphia, running back DeMarco Murray. Here’s what McCoy had to say about the Eagles new superstar in their backfield:

"“I think Murray’s good,” McCoy says. “But I don’t see him as competition as far as the best backs. I like my game a lot.”"

This guy just doesn’t get it. Shut up and play the game! That’s essentially what Murray told him when asked about his response to McCoy’s ridiculous claim. Here’s what Murray had to say, courtesy of Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com:

"“At some point you’ve got to move on with your life and career,” he said of McCoy after practice.Murray, who led the NFL in rushing last year, smiled when he talked about McCoy and his comments in GQ.“I never worry about what someone else says about me, good, bad, and ugly,” he said.“I can only control what I can control, and I can’t control what someone else says about me.“It’s funny, but I don’t take anything to heart. He has his opinion, I’m sure everyone else has theirs. I’m not worried about it at all.”"

It’s clear that the Eagles are tired of answering questions regarding McCoy’s comments. The regular season is just days away and they have “bigger fish to fry” as the saying goes. Now it’s time to worry about football, not all of this other outside nonsense.

Maybe the Bills should have a talk with McCoy and get him on the same page as the rest of their team…but then again, Rex Ryan probably enjoys all of this garbage.
