Jordan Matthews has, without a doubt, been the best wide receiver on the Eagles roster in each of the past two seasons. Now, that isn’t saying much considering the Eagles have had two very disappointing seasons in the passing game, but the blame for that can’t all be placed on Matthews. He’s serviceable as a receiver.
Signing Jeffery and Smith were both great moves. Doing so could also light a fire under Matthews. As a matter of fact, it was rumored that the Eagles were actually shopping Matthews to see if any teams were willing to trade for him.
Honestly, Matthews could have his best season with Jeffery and Smith beside him. Does that mean that he’s a long-term answer for the Eagles? Matthews, who is coming into the final year of the deal he signed as a rookie, has much to prove. His performance this season will determine if he is worthy of a big contract here or getting one somewhere else.
