Doug Pederson may talk every single one of us who are still skeptical into believing the Eagles signing LeGarrette Blount may be one of the bests moves of the last five years.

You heard it. So did everybody else, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson can’t stop raving about LeGarrette Blount. He can’t stop watching his game film either.

The Eagles fished Blount out of the free agency pool on May 17th, 2017 with a one-year, $1.25 million contract. $400,000 of that was guaranteed. As desperately as the Eagles needed help at the running back position, Blount’s signing had and still has the Eagles’ fan base split.

The debate:

Some believe the team finally has a workhorse back. Others believe they’ll need to see Blount be productive somewhere other than with the New England Patriots before they’ll acknowledge he’s the answer. There’s something else to think about.

Last season, Blount toted the rock 299 times in the regular season and another 35 times in the post season. By the time the Patriots hoisted the Lombardi Trophy, Blount had eclipsed 1,270 yards rushing. He reached the end zone 19 times in 19 games. That’s a ton of work for someone who turned 30 during the 2016 season, and history has taught us one thing about NFL running backs if it hasn’t taught us anything else.

Backs who have that type of output usually don’t equal the same amount of production the following year.

The game film is sick though. Check it out.

2017:

Whether Blount is able to duplicate last season’s success in 2017 is anybody’s guess, but if you’re an Eagles fan, you have to hope so. His presence has elevated the Eagles backfield from a bunch of guys who all seem to be the same person to one of the more deep and versatile rosters in the NFC East. Will it pay dividends and result in a playoff berth?

Only time will tell.
