Well, if you missed the news, the Eagles need a kicker now.

There’s normally no reason to question coaching decisions when your favorite team wins. Still, when the Philadelphia Eagles opted to go for a two-point conversion with the game already decided, some were scratching their head as to why that was the case. Well, we have an answer. Philly’s lost their kicker, Caleb Sturgis for an extended period of time.

Ian Rapoport, as he often does, broke the news shortly after lunchtime on Monday. He states Sturgis is dealing with a quad strain. The great Les Bowen took to social media shortly thereafter, and he was of the theory that Sturgis’ injury was a hip flexor tear. That may explain why he missed that second extra point, no?

Irregardless of what’s wrong, we know two things. One, Sturgis is out, and second, the Eagles need another kicker ASAP. Here are five possible replacements:

1. Jake Elliott: Elliott’s a fifth-round pick who lost the job of Cincinnati Bengals kicker to Randy Bullock. He connected on 21 of 26 field goals during his time with the Memphis Tigers.

2. Nick Novak: This one comes with experience. Novak has appeared in 111 NFL games, and he’s made almost 83 percent of his attempts.

3. Travis Coons: Coons tried out for the Los Angeles Rams, but he was waived in early September. Before that, he spent time as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

4. Ross Martin:  Anyone who connects on 89 percent of his field goals deserves a look, even if that was two years ago with the Duke Blue Devils.

5. Mike Nugent: Nugent comes with experience. He’s played in 153 NFL games. He’s struggled in the latter portion of his career, but he’s made over 81 percent of his kicks for his career.
