Marvin Lewis throws shade at Eagles kicker Jake Elliott
Just in case you haven’t heard, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis isn’t impressed with Jake Elliott
What a weekend it has been for the Philadelphia Eagles. After an emotional division victory over the New York Giants, the team remains on their high horses. Eagles kicker Jake Elliott was recently named the NFC special teams player of the week for his 61-yard boot to secure the win. While the city of Philadelphia is still buzzing about the kick, one person, in particular, wasn’t very satisfied with it.
As you know, Elliott is a former Cincinnati Bengal. He lost out the kicking position to veteran Randy Bullock after having an inconsistent preseason. Fortunately for Elliott, the Eagles were in the market for a new kicker after Caleb Sturgis suffered an injury. So far, Elliott has been serviceable, but his 61-yard walk-off field goal is what kept everyone happy with his performance last Sunday. Everybody except for Bengals coach, Marvin Lewis.

Sounds a lot like coach Lewis is throwing some shade towards his 2017 fifth-round draft pick there. His response is somewhat understandable. It is probably tough to hear about former players successes while they are on a different team. Not to mention Lewis is dealing with a 0-3 start to the season. The last thing he wants on his mind is his former kicker winning games while his team struggles.
It looks like Elliott came away with a winning situation despite being cut after preseason. Although the Eagles still plan to keep Caleb Sturgis within the organization, Elliott is working on a decent resume. He clearly has the leg strength, now he just needs to remain consistent to be successful.
There is no telling whether Elliott will remain in Philadelphia long-term or not. But one thing is for sure, Jake Elliott has all eyes on him since last week. If his points continue to become a major factor in the Eagles wins then he will have a long-term position on a roster soon enough.
