Eagles QB Carson Wentz named FedEx Air player of the week
Carson Wentz earns his first weekly honor of the season this week.
It has been a hot start to the season for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. Through the first five games of the season, Wentz has racked up 110 completions for 1,372 yards and ten touchdowns. A lot of fans were skeptical about whether he can continue with his success in the air past week three, due to last season. Now it’s week six, and Wentz was officially named FedEx Air player of the week.
Wentz had a red-hot game against the Arizona Cardinals at home last Sunday. He threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns with a passer rating of 128.3. Three of his four touchdown passes came within the first quarter. He marked himself as the first Eagles quarterback to do that since the 2013 season.
So far, Wentz has made a major leap in progression this year. After he regressed throughout the year last season, many have labeled Wentz’s impressive first three games as a fluke. Now as he heads into week six of his second season, he keeps proving the doubters wrong.

The key to the Eagles success this season will be Wentz’s consistency. As long as he is able to minimize his mistakes, everything else seems to fall into place. With a little help from his upgraded receiving core, Wentz has options to be able to make successful plays this time around and he showed that last Sunday.
Wentz spread the ball around so well against Arizona, that each of his four touchdown passes were to a different receiver or tight end. His ability to consistently convert on third-down and make crucial plays has gained him some recognition around the league.

Carson Wentz will be the first Eagle to win the FedEx player of the week honors this season. He joins some elite company with quarterbacks like Tom Brady and Alex Smith. As the Eagles prepare for their Thursday Night game against the Carolina Panthers, Wentz’ looks to build on his momentum against a damaged Panthers secondary.
