There is a new NFL MVP favorite in town, and his name is Carson Wentz.

When the Philadelphia Eagles traded up to obtain the second-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, they knew they were getting a superstar. After just 22 games to begin his young NFL career, Carson Wentz is currently being viewed by some as the favorite to win league MVP. In many circles, Wentz is one of the leaders as talk is beginning about possible early candidates in the race for 2017 NFL MVP.

Of course, this may have something to do with the injury of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. That doesn’t mean that Wentz wouldn’t have given him a run for his money if he did remain healthy. The Eagles’ signal caller has had a red-hot start to the season. His 1,584 yards with a 13-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio has him listed as a top-five passer this season.

Single-player statistics obviously play a huge part in the MVP race, but let’s not forget about the standings either. The Eagles are currently sitting at the top of the NFL with a 5-1 record. Only the Kansas City Chiefs have an equal record. Although Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith (+200) is right behind Wentz in the MVP race, the fine people of Vegas seem to think that Wentz has been better.

There is still plenty of time left in the NFL season, but getting excited never hurt anybody. It seems like Wentz is on top of the world after proving all of his doubters wrong last week. Everyone was curious to see how he would do without his best offensive lineman, Lane Johnson. He ended up throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns.

After defeating the Carolina Panthers on the road in a statement game, Wentz has seemed to have won over the NFL. Not only did his MVP chances rise, but so did his jersey sales. According to Dicks Sporting Goods, Wentz currently has the number one selling jersey in the NFL.

With plenty of time still remaining in the 2017 season, Wentz and the Eagles will have to remain focus on the main task that is making the playoffs. We are sure Wentz is thrilled to hear about his MVP odds but there is no doubt that he is not letting that get to his head. If Wentz can stay focused and keep playing at a high-level, then he could be taking home a few trophies this season. Will you be putting your money on Wentz?
