There’s no way to state just how much left tackle Jason Peters means to this Philadelphia Eagles team.

Lincoln Financial Field isn’t Veterans Stadium and never will be. That’s not necessarily a bad thing (no jail cell at the stadium for instance), but some Philadelphia Eagles fans miss the hostility of “The Vet”. Last night was close. “The Linc” was a raucous scene, and, at times, brought back memories of the stadium that used to be across the street. Then, when Jason Peters went down, it got quiet.

Peters left the game early in the third quarter after Washington Redskins defensive lineman Ziggy Hood accidentally landed on his right leg. Peters went down immediately and remained there for a while before an air cast was placed on his leg and he was carted off. As the Eagles bench cleared to wish one of their team captains well, Peters raised a fist in the air. Then, the volume increased once again as fans chanted his name.

At the time, many thought it would be the last time we saw Peters in an Eagles jersey. Not so fast my friend. NFL Network and NFL.com Insider Ian Rapoport reveals there may be some good news on the way.

For those of us who lack a medical degree, let’s put it this way. If it’s an MCL, the hope is Peters is out for a month. If it’s the ACL, Philly needs to find a long-term answer at left tackle. In other words, let’s hope it’s the the MCL. After seeing the awkward fashion that Peters’ right leg bent in, it’s also amazing there was no break. The Eagles’ good fortune may continue if the initial reports from Rapoport are correct.

They’ll need good news following the reports of a season-ending injury to starting middle linebacker Jordan Hicks. We now know he’s ruptured his Achilles tendon. We won’t see him in an Eagles jersey again until 2018. It’s time to employ that “next man up” theory again.
