The Philadelphia Eagles officially place Jordan Hicks on injured reserve.

Here’s some news that most Philadelphia Eagles fans didn’t want to hear. They’ve placed starting middle linebacker Jordan Hicks on the team’s injured reserve. It’s the second time in three years that the talented third-year standout hasn’t been able to complete an entire NFL season.

While this isn’t the best of news, it also shouldn’t come as a major surprise. Hicks ruptured his Achilles tendon during the first quarter of the Eagles’ Monday Night Football contest against the Washington Redskins. It took a while to make the decision, but Philly officially made the decision to deactivate Hicks right around lunchtime on Halloween.

For Hicks, this comes as a bit of a setback. Injuries have always been a concern with the third-year veteran. He missed all but three games during his junior season with the Texas Longhorns due to a hip injury. That led to him, eventually, being given a medical redshirt, but when he returned a season later, he was injured in the fourth game of that year (another Achilles tendon rupture in 2013).

He returned for the 2014 season and started every game before being drafted by the Eagles in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft with the 84th-overall selection.

Injuries would follow him to the professional level however. As mentioned, this is the second time he’s finished an NFL season on injured reserve. The first time was his rookie season when he tore his pectoral muscle. 2016 was relatively injury free, but now, after seeing him leave the field of play and not return on more than one occasion in 2017, questions may begin about how much Philly wants to invest into Hicks to be a part of their future.

Only time will tell.
