Philadelphia Eagles may play a game in London during 2018 season
The NFL will continue to expand it’s brand with more games in London in 2018, and one of those games could possibly feature the Philadelphia Eagles.
League executives have been open about them being interested to bringing an NFL franchise to London, England. They’ve been testing the waters for a good while now by playing games across the pond. Next year, that will continue with three more games, and one of the league’s most popular franchises, the Philadelphia Eagles, are among the teams that are entering the conversation as one the possible participants.
In a recent article on ESPN.com, NFL UK managing director Alistair Kirkwood recently expressed his desire to have the final six teams who haven’t participated in a game overseas yet to do so in 2018.
Here’s some of what he had to say:
"It’s not the be-all and end-all, but you’d kind of like to get closer and closer to having all 32 teams over. That seems like a really nice narrative, and also for the fans of the teams that have supported us through thick and thin and haven’t seen the Eagles or the Titans or the Texans or whoever else or the Packers…"
Is an overseas NFL team truly a possibility?

Some like the overseas games and the idea of a franchise in the U.K. Some are opposed. Hey, it could work. Well, we, as fans, hope that it would work if it would be done. We just want to see the continued success of our great game. Some are of the opinion that having an NBA franchise in Toronto hasn’t added to the overall product their league has produced. After all, the Vancouver experiment bombed, and the Raptors have been mostly inadequate.
Then again, some of us are still trying to get used to saying the Los Angeles Chargers. It just doesn’t have any ring to it. Does it?
Whatever the NFL decides, one thing is certain. Another is almost certain. What we do know is an expansion team that played overseas would experience quite a home-field advantage. It’s hard to imagine how taxing that plane ride and playing that early in the morning might be for whoever the visiting team is.
What’s almost certain is playing in the United Kingdom might mean the Eagles would lose one of their eight home games. What may save that from happening would be if they, somehow, were to land the Tennessee Titans as their opponent. The Titans are slated as one of Philly’s road games in 2018 and they haven’t played in London yet either.
