The NFC East showdown keeps on looking better for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sunday night’s big matchup this week just keeps on looking more favorable for the road team. The Philadelphia Eagles head into Texas to face the Dallas Cowboys for what could very well be the NFC East Championship already. Sure, there are still eight games left to play. But an undefeated divisional record after Sunday night could mean the Eagles pretty much wrapped up the divison with a couple more wins.

Surprisingly, the Eagles were able to stay hot while losing some key players to injuries. The Cowboys on the other hand have not been able to step up after losing some big names on both sides of the ball. Star linebacker Sean Lee has been the heart and soul of the Cowboys defense for the last couple of seasons. Although he has been a pivotal player on their defense, his injury history tends to interfere with his success.

In the Cowboys last game against the Atlanta Falcons, Sean Lee suffered a hamstring injury. It ended up sidelining him for the remainder of the game. The Cowboys went on to let up 27-points on defense in what turned out to be a blowout win for the Falcons. Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett announced on Monday that Lee would be questionable against the Eagles. Not too long after Garrett’s attempt to keep confidence alive, Lee shot down any high hopes for him playing this Sunday.

What’s the word:

What does this mean for the Eagles?

It is no secret that the Cowboys have struggled on defense this season. The Eagles will come off of their bye week to a very thin secondary in Dallas. If the big men up front can contain the pass rush, then Carson Wentz could seriously do some damage in the passing game.

Let’s also not forget about the big addition to the Eagles run game. New running back, Jay Ajayi will suit up for the second time this season in an Eagles uniform. After having close to two weeks to learn the playbook, he should be getting plenty of snaps in Dallas.

Without Lee on the field, the opportunities for the Eagles offense have opened up big time. As soon as he exited in last Sunday’s game, the Falcons were able to move the ball up and down the field with ease. The Eagles may have some key injuries to their team as well, but the next man up mentality has shown that the team hasn’t really lost a step. If the Cowboys second-strings cannot step up like the Eagles’ can, it will be a long game for Dallas.
