Ladies and gentlemen, Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott is back.

It’s official. Kamu Grugier-Hill has been relieved of his kicking duties. Those of you who were interested in what might happen if the Philadelphia Eagles decided to trot him out for an extra point or a game-winning field goal will have to put those desires on hold. Their real kicker, Jake Elliott cleared the NFL‘s concussion protocol on Friday. He’s now cleared to play in Sunday afternoon’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Eagles fans should all hope there’s no need to call on Grugier-Hill any time soon. As impressive as his kickoffs were, there was an issue with him missing the entire kicking net as the Eagles held makeshift tryouts once Elliott left the field of play for the locker room. It was Elliott who, on the opening kickoff, attempted to channel his inner-Brian Urlacher once he became one of the last lines of defense on the game’s opening return.

It was a nice tackle, but again, Eagles fans should hope it’s an option the team doesn’t have to revisit any time soon.

Bring on Chicago.

As mentioned, the Chicago Bears are the next step in the Eagles’ journey through 2017. That’s followed by two road games against the Seattle Seahawks and the New York Giants.

Philly will be favored against the Bears all the way until kickoff. At the time of this writing, they were anywhere from 13.5 to 14-point favorites on most of the betting sites featured on sportsbookreview.com.

The game probably won’t come down to a kick or a few points. Head coach Doug Pederson has even been quoted in saying that going for two rather than kicking the extra point may come into play more frequently as the season goes on. On Sunday alone, the Eagles were successful on three of their four two-point conversion attempts.

Yes, it appears Coach Pderson seems to have formed some sort of addiction to rolling the dice. Either way, regardless of what he decides, one thing is certain. It’s nice to know, with Elliott’s return, that the option of kicking is there. It’s anybody’s guess if that’s actually what Pederson decides to do.
