Eagles QB Nick Foles works his way into player of the week discussion
It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t always pretty, but the Philadelphia Eagles walked into MetLife Stadium and walked out victorious, thanks, in part, to Nick Foles.
It’s going to be hard for any of us to admit that we saw the Philadelphia Eagles‘ most recent game with the New York Giants unfolding in the fashion that it did. The Eagles fell into a double-digit hole early. They responded by rallying behind Nick Foles and clawing their way back to a late second-quarter lead. They’d lose that lead, get it back and have to fight all day to put a suddenly scrappy Giants team away. As mentioned, it wasn’t easy, nor was it pretty.
It wasn’t always easy for Philly’s newly appointed starting signal caller either. Foles made some good throws and some bad ones. He second guessed himself at times. In a couple of instances, he did so in the middle of his throwing motion, leading to some high throws and some incomplete passes. Still, Foles’ day has to be included in some of the brightest performances of the NFL season. Don’t be surprised if you hear more about that next week.
Just how good was Foles, you ask?

Foles completed 63 percent of his passes, going 24 of 38, and he tossed four touchdowns. Now, had any Eagles fan been told that was a possibility prior to today’s contest, they probably would have signed up immediately. Unfortunately, it almost wasn’t enough. Philly’s defense was inconsistent all afternoon, but they made just enough plays. So did Foles.
There’s a good chance that he’ll be mentioned when we start trying to determine who the offensive player of the week is.
Now, with a first-round bye assured, the Eagles will hope for home field advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs. If Foles can improve on an already impressive start, Philly may be on to something. If the defense continues on the path that they’ve been on as of late, nothing the offense does may matter much.
Foles did his part, but football is a team game. The Eagles fan base may have jumped the gun about who needs to step up down the stretch. They’ll have a nice trip home, thanks to the win, but there’s a ton of work that still needs to be done.
