Eagles talk: Why didn’t Nick Foles receive a FedEx Air nomination?

Several Philadelphia Eagles who were deserving of a Pro Bowl spot were noticeably absent when the roster was revealed. Unfortunately, they weren’t the only Eagles who got snubbed this week.

Guess what you get when you’re a quarterback who starts an NFL game, you complete 37 out of 57 passes and you end the day with 434 yards and three touchdowns? If you guessed that you end up nominated for the NFL’s FedEx Ground player of the week award, you’re absolutely right. Here’s what’s funny. Those numbers belong to New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. By the way, he lost on Sunday to the Philadelphia Eagles and his counterpart, Eagles quarterback Nick Foles.

No nomination was given to Foles after throwing four touchdowns on 24 for 38 passing.

Let’s just get ‘do-overs’ for everything.

Maybe the thinking was Manning deserved it because he threw for 197 more yards than Foles did, and he had a slightly higher completion percentage (64.9% compared to 63.2% for Foles). It doesn’t seem like that should matter though. Foles was the victor, and he didn’t throw any interceptions. Manning actually threw a pick that led to an Eagles score.

Call it crazy, but nominating the losing quarterback for this type of award kind of feels like picking the best play from the losing team’s highlight reel and calling that the play of the game. Or, how about this? Why don’t we pick the best player on a losing team and giving him MVP honors for the game?

Then, we can all go back to last year’s NBA Finals and give him the Finals MVP trophy to LeBron James for the losing effort as well. How about that?

Let’s fill out the rest of the list.

No one’s going to knock Blake Bortles nomination. He completed 72 percent of his passes while throwing for 326 yards and three touchdowns. Some may question Jimmy Garoppolo‘s nod, but, truthfully, he was solid as well. He only threw one touchdown pass, but he completed 72 percent of his passes and racked up 381 yards.

Back to the Manning nomination though. Come on people. He was the losing quarterback. Then again, maybe we’re just salty because three Eagles who were deserving were left off of the Pro Bowl roster. Wide receiver Nelson Agholor, defensive end Brandon Graham and center Jason Kelce were all ignored.

Hey, they’re all winners in our book. If eagles fans are lucky, they won’t have to play in the Pro Bowl anyway.
