Ladies and gentlemen, everyone’s present and accounted for. Cornerback Sidney Jones has been added to the Philadelphia Eagles active roster.

Well, maybe we can’t say that everyone’s present. After all, the Philadelphia Eagles did lose their starting left tackle, kicker, quarterback, middle linebacker and one of their special teams aces. Here’s some good news for a fan base seeking some though. After speculation about what the Eagles might do with the roster spot left open by Joe Walker being placed on injured reserve, we have an answer. The Eagles have removed rookie cornerback Sidney Jones from their Reserve/Non-Football Injury list..

This followed reports about the Eagles working out free agent pass rusher Ryan Delaire. That’s not all. Jones may make his NFL debut on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Here’s a quick recap of a story most of you already know.

More from Inside the Iggles

Jones was believed to be a first-round pick by just about every NFL scout after his career with the Washington Huskies ended. Then, on March 11, 2017, he tore his Achilles on the final positional drill of the afternoon at Washington’s Pro Day. That dropped him out of the first-round discussion and allowed the Eagles to scoop him up in the second round.

Though cornerback was seen as an immediate need for the Eagles, Philly believed in Jones so much that they invested in him early. This despite the fact that they knew he might not be able to play in his first season.

Patience has now been rewarded, and Eagles fans may have been given a late Christmas present. Jones is on the active roster and may be able to play in the final regular season game of 2017.

This will serve as an emotional lift to the defense and the team as a whole. Some have asked what if Jones isn’t physically ready for the NFL game or able to live up to his early expectations seeing as how he’s returning earlier than we expected. Here’s a better question. What if he is?
