Philadelphia Eagles’ John Defilippo draws interest from Chicago Bears
It appears the Chicago Bears are now interested in John Defilippo, the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterbacks coach, for their head coaching position.
Philadelphia Eagles DC Jim Schwartz isn’t the only of the team’s assistant coaches who have been drawing interest from other franchises. Jeffrey Lurie, the Eagles’ owner has long understood the importance of stability when it comes to building a winner. Last offseason, he blocked the New York Jets‘ attempts to interview John Defilippo, the team’s quarterbacks coach. He understood keeping familiar faces around his young quarterback, Carson Wentz, was essential in his development.
Unfortunately, team success in the NFL normally means your squad is a prime candidate to have your coaching staff poached by other franchises. We’re almost certain that Schwartz probably won’t be patrolling the Eagles’ sidelines next season, and he hasn’t even had either one of his interviews yet. Now, it’s becoming apparent that Philly may have some difficulty in holding on to another of their assistant coaches.
Defilippo may have one foot out of the door.

Ryan Pace is the general manager of the Chicago Bears, and he’s still trying to build the stability that Eagles fans are currently enjoying. For Pace, it will have to start with the hiring of the correct head coach. His first attempt resulted in the hiring of John Fox and failed. Now, he has Defilippo, along with several other candidates including New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in his sights.
It makes a ton of sense seeing as how the Bears, like Philly, have a young signal caller who’ll need stability from an offensive-minded head coach. His name is Mitch Trubisky.
Defilippo quietly interviewed with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday. His ten-plus years in the NFL have only seen him in an offensive coordinator’s role one time. That was in 2015 with a 3-13 Cleveland Browns team. Still no one doubts his ability to lead a franchise.
Eagles fans are aware of it. Other teams are now aware of it. Don’t be surprised if Philly’s searching for both a defensive coordinator and a quarterbacks coach at season’s end.
