Eagles Super Bowl Watch: Have distractions entered Patriots’ locker room?
The normally private Patriots have seen their two most highly-recognizable figures open up a little. Will the feedback serve as a distraction and give the Eagles an edge?
It’s a rule everyone knows in the sports arena. Don’t give the media something to talk about that has nothing to do with the game, especially big games. The New England Patriots are normally experts at that. Now, two stories have grown legs. Will that give the Philadelphia Eagles a competitive edge in the Super Bowl?
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady are two of the more private guys in the entire NFL. Recently, both allowed fans in with Brady’s “Tom vs. Time”, a six-part documentary, and Belichick’s “The Two Bills”, an upcoming ESPN ’30 for 30′ documentary.
How does this effect the Super Bowl?
Whenever these things come up, we immediately shift our focus to teams and those dreaded ‘distractions’. Following an airing of “Tom vs. Time”, Brady appeared on sports radio station WEEI’s “Kirk & Callahan Show” to discuss some unnecessary comments made about his daughter by station personality Alex Reimer.
Brady had this to say.
"I’ve tried to come on this show for many years and showed you guys a lot of respect. I’ve always tried and come on and do a good job for you guys. It’s very disappointing when you hear [the comments about my daughter], certainly. My daughter, or any child, certainly don’t deserve that. I really don’t have much to say this morning. Maybe I’ll speak with you guys some other time."
Expect to hear about all of this a lot.

With that, the interview was over. Shortly thereafter, Brady stated he would take some time to determine if he’ll appear on the station again.
Belichick’s situation is a little different. He sat down to assist in taping “The Two Bills” long before the Super Bowl was upon us. Now, with the Patriots being participants, ESPN sees this as the perfect time to air a documentary that helps shed light on the troubled relationship between Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick.
Those who are hoping that any of this will affect the performance of the Patriots on Super Bowl Sunday may be disappointed. The Patriots are too smart and experienced for that. Still, adding that to a growing list of conversation pieces, Tom Brady’s hand and Rob Gronkowski‘s concussion for instance, means the Patriots will certainly be sick of answering (or not answering) a ton of similar questions by the time February 4th rolls around.
