Philadelphia Eagles roundup: Carson Wentz, Doug Pederson, the electric slide
Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles should be pretty happy with the way things played out on the eve of Super Bowl LII.
The seventh-annual NFL Honors was held on the eve of Super Bowl LII. It was a big night for the Philadelphia Eagles organization. Their second-year sensation and franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz, won the FedEx Air Player of the Year award. Their offensive line took home the “Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the Year”. There was even a bit of controversy as Doug Pederson would see the Coach of the Year award wind up in someone else’s hands.
That wasn’t all though. The fans weighed in, made their voice heard and named the Eagles’ rendition of the electric slide their choice for “Celebration of the Year”. Then, true fans of this great Eagles franchise puffed the chests out a little. Both Brian Dawkins and Terrell Owens were named two of the newest entries into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Was Doug Pederson snubbed?

Sure, most of these awards are largely influenced by what’s done in the regular season, but let’s be honest. People are still paying attention in the postseason with these awards in mind.
With that being said, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson led his team to a 13-3 record in the regular season and a Super Bowl appearance after securing home-field advantage throughout the NFL Playoffs.
Pederson led a group of men, many of which weren’t even on the team a season ago. Take Jay Ajayi, Phill’s new starting running back, for instance. He joined the team on Halloween. This was partially due to a season-ending injury to Darren Sproles, one of many important cogs the Eagles would lose in the regular season.

They lost one of their key special teams players, Chris Maragos. They lost their kicker. Then, there was their starting left tackle and possibly their next Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Jason Peters. They lost him too. We haven’t even mentioned their starting middle linebacker and his backup, Jordan Hicks and Joe Walker. Despite all of this, he still led his team to the Super Bowl and disposed of the actual winner of the Coach of the Year Award, Sean McVay, along the way.
Might we consider a recount?

Carson Wentz will be back in 2018.
The Eagles have made it to football’s biggest game, and they did so without Carson Wentz. Seeing him win an award and finish as one of the top three candidates for league MVP reminded Eagles fans that they have something special. He won’t be present in uniform on Super Bowl Sunday, but he’ll do everything he can to help Nick Foles and will his Eagles team to victory. Said victory would be one of the biggest in Eagles history, and it would deliver Philly its’ first championship since 1960.
