Philadelphia Eagles QB coach John Defilippo to be interviewed by Vikings
The Vikings will be allowed to interview Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo on Valentine’s Day.
Part of the problem with success in the NFL is other teams tend to want to come after your coaching staff. Such is the case with the Philadelphia Eagles. Take their quarterbacks coach, John DeFilippo, for instance. He’s been one of the hot candidates in the league for a while. Now, it appears the Minnesota Vikings want to interview him for their offensive coordinator position.
Due to league rules, they’ll have to wait at least ten days after the season ends. That means they’ll be allowed access to DeFilippo on Valentine’s day, and according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, they don’t seem to have a problem with waiting to talk to him.

Kevin Stefanski, Sean Ryan, Dan Campbell and Darrell Bevell have all interviewed for the Vikings’ vacant offensive coordinator position as well. Adding an offensive coordinator will finalize the Minnesota’s coaching staff, but it would also create a void in that of Philadelphia’s.
Last season, the New York Jets showed similar interest in DeFilippo, but their efforts to interview the Eagles quarterbacks coach were blocked by team owner Jeffrey Lurie. As of now, it doesn’t appear that Lurie will employ similar tactics a year later.
Lurie has stayed out of the way as DeFilippo has been talked about in relation to everything from offensive coordinator positions to head coaching jobs with the Arizona Cardinals, the Chicago Bears and, now, the Minnesota Vikings.

While his contribution to the overall success of the Eagles has been immense, he’s tutored a young signal caller in Carson Wentz and been key to Nick Foles success following Wentz’s injury, everyone realizes this is the nature of the NFL. DeFilippo has plans for his own success, and he may have aspirations of being a head coach one day.
It sucks for Eagles fans, but, again, this is how these things go. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
