Eagles news: Frank Reich to be hired by Colts as their head coach
It appears imminent that the Colts will hire Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich as their new head coach.
As of 3:30 PM EST on Sunday, nothing had been signed yet, but everyone was pretty much certain of something. Talk began heating up around the fact that the Indianapolis Colts had become serious about the idea that Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich was their choice to become the team’s next head coach.
It’s a great honor for Reich, who deserves it. It’s also a sign that the purge will continue for the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly had already lost their quarterbacks coach, John DeFilippo, to the Minnesota Vikings. Now, there’s another vacancy in their coaching ranks. With the NFL Combine approaching, look for Philly to move quickly in an attempt to fill both spots.
Here’s a tweet from the NFL Network’s own Mike Garafolo.
All that needs to happen now is ink needs to be added to paper. That may happen later tonight.
Here’s another tweet from the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The NFL Network confirmed both of those reports shortly thereafter. If you were watching their Super Bowl Marathon shortly 3PM EST, you saw that interrupted briefly at around 3:30 PM EST.
Take a look.
Let’s look back and ahead in Reich’s career.

The Colts, after it became apparent that Josh McDaniels wouldn’t be accepting their offer to become their next head coach, stated they would take their time in their search. No one believed that, as it’s already highly unlikely that an NFL team would still be searching for a head coach this far after the conclusion of the Super Bowl. Reich hasn’t inked anything yet, but it appears it’s a done deal.
Reich’s deal is expected to be for five years.
As a player, he was the author of the greatest postseason comeback in the history of the NFL Playoffs. He’d later interview for the job of head coach with the same team he made history on, the Buffalo Bills. He wouldn’t be given the job on that day, but a coaching career that has now spanned ten-plus years has, apparently, led him to the position of head coach.
