Philadelphia Eagles interview 13 players on NFL Combine’s first day
So how much should we make of the Philadelphia Eagles interviewing 13 players on day one of the NFL Combine?
The biggest contributing factor to the Philadelphia Eagles‘ run to Super Bowl LII in 2017 was team depth. That’s long been established. One of the things we’ve learned most recently has been how Philly saw an importance in investing in the backup quarterback position and the running game, two key pieces to the championship puzzle in 2017.
Just take the running backs. The Eagles added LeGarrette Blount in free agency, Donnel Pumphrey in the draft and Corey Clement as an undrafted free agent. That was after they had already added Wendell Smallwood via the draft a year prior. It became evident that no one in the Eagles organization had any qualms about having too many bodies in a particular position grouping, especially if there was a lot of talent there.
Oh by the way, with an already stocked running back room, the Eagles added Jay Ajayi via trade. Regardless of what the Eagles already have, they’re going to continue to look to get better.
The Eagles are extremely active on day one.

With so many quality players at so many positions, the question is being asked what Philly might do at pick 32. Some think the Eagles should invest in what now appears to be a thin linebacker group. Others say stick with the theory of taking the best player available.
Seeing as how the Eagles interviewed 13 players on the first day of March (five running backs and eight offensive tackles), it’s probably sensible to believe Philly will do the latter.
Eight offensive tackle interviews means Philly is thinking hard about what to do at the tackle position once Jason Peters calls it a career. The Eagles brass sat down with Mike McGlinchey, Martinas Rankin, Mason Cole, Orlando Brown, Isaiah Wynn, Chukwuma Okorafor, Tyrell Crosby and Jamarco Jones.

At the running back position the Eagles sat down with Royce Freeman, Nyheim Hines, John Kelly, Ronald Jones II, and of course Bo Scarbrough. Could any of these guys end up in Eagles green? We’ll have to keep watching in the days and weeks leading up to the draft. Best believe that’s exactly what we intend to do.
