Philadelphia Eagles meet with 10 WRs at NFL Combine on day two
The Philadelphia Eagles remained one of the NFL Combine’s most active teams on day two of the NFL Combine. interviewing ten potential wide receiver targets and one of the more highly-touted quarterback prospects as well.
Is anyone else beginning to believe the Philadelphia Eagles may go with the ‘best player available’ approach in the upcoming NFL Draft? Much has been made about what to do with pick 32. Should they trade down? Should they stay put? One thing we’ve learned about executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman and companay is there are no guarantees when it comes to this stuff. Don’t expect that to change during the next few days.
A season ago, the Eagles seemed desperate at multiple positions. Seeing as how they were in a decent position at defensive end, especially after adding Chris Long, and at wide receiver, after adding both Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery, Philly was certain to go with a cornerback in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, weren’t they?
Wrong. They took the best player player available on their draft board and selected Derek Barnett, a defensive end from the Tennessee Volunteers,14th overall. Their need at cornerback would have to wait until rounds two and three when they selected Sidney Jones IV at pick 43 and Rasul Douglas at pick 99.

Scouting at the NFL level never ends. Regardless of what your needs are, you have to continue to scout at every position. Failure to do so could water down a team’s roster. The Eagles, on Friday, sat down with ten wide receivers at the Combine, including Jordan Lasley and Christian Kirk who tore up the 40-yard dash a day later. In Mel Kiper of ESPN‘s first mock draft, he projected Kirk would go to the Eagles at pick 32.
Courtland Sutton, D.J. Moore, Tre’Quan Smith, Antonio Callaway, James Washington, Marcell Ateman, J’Mon Moore, Javon Wims sat down with the Eagles as well. As did quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson. Stories were aplenty about several NFL teams requesting Jackson work out with the wide receivers. Seeing as how the Eagles are stacked at the quarterback position, that may have had something to do with it.

Then again, how can you ignore the versatility Jackson possesses? His athletic ability can’t be ignored and, no doubt, would make a welcome addition to an Eagles offense manned by a mad scientist like head coach Doug Pederson. Imagine Jackson with what the Eagles already have and Pederson’s imagination. See what we mean?
