Philadelphia Eagles rumor mill: 16 teams have inquired about Trey Burton
Expect Trey Burton to have a strong market during the NFL Free Agency period if he, indeed, leaves the Philadelphia Eagles.
It’s been believed for a while that Philadelphia Eagles tight end Trey Burton might be one of those familiar faces that ends up somewhere else during the free agency period. As much as he’s etched his way into the hearts of Eagles fans forever (look no further than ‘The Philly Special’), this is the ‘nature of the business’ that NFL teams and coaches keep talking about.
Despite the fact Philly needs someone to shoulder the load with starter Zach Ertz, Burton may, indeed, become a salary cap casualty. There’s just not enough money to go around. Fortunately for him, several teams have already inquired about his services, at least 16 to be exact. That was the news we were given on Saturday according to Ian Rapoport via his official Twitter account.
Take a look:
How difficult of a time will the Eagles have replacing him?

In his final two seasons in Philly, Burton started in five games. He recorded 60 receptions for 575 yards and six touchdowns (five were during the 2017 season). Philly also has Billy Brown, who has impressed, and Brent Celek on the active roster. Then there’s Joshua Perkins and Adam Zaruba, a former rugby star. Both were on the Eagles’ practice squad in 2017.
The Eagles have paid quite a bit of attention to the tight ends who were invited to the most recent NFL Combine. One of which was Durham Smythe of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. For more on that click here.
