Philadelphia Eagles hope to reconstruct Vinny Curry’s deal
The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t going to let Vinny Curry walk out of the door without making one more play to keep him.
The Philadelphia Eagles‘ executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman wasn’t lying when he said the plan was to keep as many valuable weapons ‘The Birds’ had as possible. Currently, Philly’s somewhere around $10 million over the cap for the 2018 season. Conventional wisdom had us all believing the easiest way to fix this problem would be to let some of the more expensive players on Philly’s roster walk. That would include the likes of defensive end Vinny Curry.
Talk that the Eagles were planning to let Curry explore the free agent market grew legs when tweets like this one from Ian Rapoprt’s ‘Rap Sheet’ popped up on social media.

Is a new deal for Curry in the works?

Well, as the old adage goes, that was then, and this is now.
What we currently know is Curry’s deal is a big one. He’s set to make a base salary of $9 million in 2018 and a signing bonus of $2 million. Releasing him would save the team $5 million, but it would also result in about $6 million in dead money.
It appeared as though that was almost necessary for a team that was trying to free up some money and hold on to some players they desperately wanted to re-sign, Nigel Bradham for instance.

Here’s the good news. We’ve recently learned that may not be the only option here. Both sides, the Eagles and Curry, may be interested in restructuring the defensive end’s deal. It appears that Curry wants to stay with the only team he’s ever played for in the NFL. It also appears that the Eagles won’t mind bringing him back if a happy medium can be reached.
If not, Philly may go ahead and release him or trade him anyway. We’ll all have to wait and see what happens.
