The Philadelphia Eagles, while trimming salaries to get under the cap, could still be players during the NFL Free Agency period. Might a Patriots linebacker make sense?

If you’re hearing what we’re hearing, you’re finding out that there’s a possibility that the Philadelphia Eagles might not bring linebacker Nigel Bradham back for the 2018 season. As disappointing as that is for some Eagles fans, we all understand the nature of the business. Bradha stepped up following injuries to Joe Walker and Jordan Hicks. By the end of the season, he became the guy defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz relied on to relay play calls in the defensive huddle. If he’s gone, the Eagles have an immediate need at linebacker.

Might they address this need during the NFL Free Agency period?

Could Marquis Flowers be considered as a serious option?

More from Inside the Iggles

After spending his first three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, linebacker Marquis Flowers spent his last season with the Super Bowl runner-up New England Patriots. His career’s produced 47 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble (mostly in reserve and special teams roles). With a stat line like that, you’re probably wondering why he’d be a serious consideration for the Eagles right?

To put it simply, he’s a good player the Eagles could possibly land at a reasonable price. Sure, he’s the guy Corey Clement beat on that touchdown catch in the Super Bowl. Don’t let that be the determining factor in how you view him. He’s very serviceable and could be a nice fit in the right system.

According to Spotrac.com, Flowers made $690,000 in 2017. The Patriots don’t seem too keen on bringing him for the 2018 season. Philly’s cap issues have been well documented. Though they’ll certainly get under the league-mandated number of $177.2 million, if they figure to make moves in free agency, it’ll probably be with guys who are serviceable but are less expensive. No one’s discussing the Eagles making a big splash in free agency.

Then again, this is executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman’s department, and we’ve seen him perform magic before. Stay tuned. Things could get interesting.
