There’s a rumor that the Philadelphia Eagles may have a couple of interested parties that will allow them to get out of the first round and acquire more picks.

If the 2018 NFL Draft were to begin today, the Philadelphia Eagles would be tied for the least amount of picks with a grand total of six. How did they get here? Well, it’s quite simple. After winning the Super Bowl, they assured themselves of the 32nd-overall selection. There’s just one problem.

They don’t have a second-round selection, nor do they have a pick in the third round.

Let’s take a closer look at things as they stand now.

What was supposed to be Philly’s second-round selection in 2018 now belongs to the Cleveland Browns, a move that afforded Philly with the right to draft their franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz. Their third-round selection was shipped off to the Buffalo Bills, along with wide receiver Jordan Matthews, for cornerback Ronald Darby.

How do we define ‘value’?

Eliot Schor-Parks of NJ.com recently penned a spectacular article on all of this.

How many of you knew that there was something called a Draft Pick Value Chart? It’s apparently an essential draft tool for quite a few NFL franchises. While not used by every team, the ones that do use this as their measuring stick when evaluating the value of draft positioning.

According to said chart, the 32nd-overall selection is worth a total of 590 points. To acquire equal value, Philly would need to be given picks in, both, a pick in the middle of the second round and a selection in the middle of the third round. Schor-Parks also details in his work that there are rumors that the Eagles may have an interested trade partner in the Kansas City Chiefs.

When you think about it, the move makes sense.

This isn’t a stretch seeing as how there’s already a relationship between the two teams. There’s also been quite a bit of movement between the two, whether you’re thinking of former Eagles head man Andy Reid trading green for red, or Doug Pederson taking Philly’s head coaching job or players who have been swapped back and forth.

The Chiefs are without a first-round selection. It was given away in last year’s draft to the aforementioned Bills last year to move up and select quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Another potential trade partner that’s emerged appears to be the Green Bay Packers. They own a league-leading 12 draft picks. For them, quality of picks may be more important than quantity. Don’t rule out the possibility of them using some of those as a negotiating tool come draft day.
