Have the Philadelphia Eagles found some insurance or a possible replacement for Jason Peters?

Perhaps one of the biggest failures of the administration of former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was his failure to replenish the offensive line. He drafted right tackle Lane Johnson, and though that as a wise move, that was just about all of the attention that he would pay to the offensive line.

When current head coach Doug Pederson showed up, the attitude was different. Pederson’s theory was Philly needed to be a little more physical, and, though the Eagles can appear to rely on finesse at times, one of the main places Coach and executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman focused their attention was the offensive line.

Let’s take a quick look back.

In two years, the Eagles added talent in the form of Halapoulivaati Vaitai and Isaac Seumalo in the draft. They added guys like Chance Warmack and Brandon Brooks in free agency.

Roseman and Pederson have excelled in many areas where Chip Kelly failed. What they’ve done with their offensive line was key in them being seen as being better than the other 31 offensive lines in the NFL.

What they’ve done with their offensive line is exactly why they didn’t miss a beat when all-world left tackle Jason Peters went down. It’s also exactly why they’re the defending Super Bowl champions.

Philly looks to get better.

Here at ITI, we recently took a quick look at some of the prospects the Eagles were interested in sitting with. We didn’t mention offensive tackle Connor Williams of the Texas Longhorns, but according to NFL Draft Insider Jared Tokarz, we can confidently add his name to the list.

Peters is good, but he can’t play forever, and with ‘Big V’ already in the fold, Williams would add more depth to the best offensive line in football. No one would argue with that decision if Philly, does indeed, go in that direction.
