As long as Jerry Jones leads the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles will have nothing to worry about.

In the NFC East, plots continue to thicken. The Philadelphia Eagles are the world champs. The New York Giants have the second-overall pick and are apparently taking Odell Beckham Jr. off of the trading block. Then, there’s the Washington Redskins. They’re having a hard time figuring things out. That brings us to the Dallas Cowboys.

One of the most difficult tasks an NFL fan will ever endure is trying to have an intelligent conversation about football with the typical Cowboys fan. It’s frustrating. They, at times, appear to have no grasp on reality. They only want to hear what they want to hear, and they, unlike the rest of the football world, never seem to have an honest gauge about what their football team is or how good they are.

It’s a trait the fans share with their owner, Jerry Jones, who recently made some comments that led some to believe he doesn’t see a huge gap between his team and the guys who just hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in Philly.

Jerry Jones misses the mark again.

In a recent article by ESPN staff writer Todd Archer, this subject came up about where Jones thought the Cowboys were in relation to the Eagles. Here’s some of what he had to say:

"Philadelphia had been trying to win a Super Bowl the 30 years I’d been in the NFL and got it this year. Not two (years)… They’ve got a team that mirrors us in a lot of respects..I’d like to think that Philly closed the deal of where we had an opportunity to do it the year before..I think that we should’ve been in the playoffs. We weren’t, but I don’t believe that us not being in the playoffs this past year is the size of the gap."

Now, we see even more reason why the Cowboys struggle.

This comes from a guy that fired one of the best coaches in his team’s history after he had just won two Super Bowls. His arrogance and football illiteracy is why ‘America’s Team’ has stumbled along ever since.

The Eagles are better than the Cowboys at quarterback. If you think Dak Prescott is one the same level as Carson Wentz, think again. The Eagles are also better than the Cowboys at tight end, wide receiver and along the offensive line. The running back position is debatable at best. Those are just some of the significant gaps on offense.

They’re also better than the Cowboys at every position on defense. These two teams split the season series in 2018. The second game was a 6-0 victory by the Cowboys in a game the Eagles weren’t even trying to win.

If Jones can’t see the Eagles are better, that may also explain why this team hasn’t won anything meaningful since the mid-nineties, why Jason Garrett is still their head coach and why everyone except people in the Cowboys fan base and organization are the only people who can see Dez Bryant has never been an elite receiver.

Oh, by the way, Jones and Bryant have a meeting scheduled for Friday. That should be interesting. Expect Jones to do something foolish there as well, a contract extension for too much money for instance.
