Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Mike Wallace has some added motivation to do a couple more wind sprints.

If only we all had the added motivation to get in better shape that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Mike Wallace has. One thing would be a certainty. The United States would, as a whole, be a much healthier place than it already is.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates, Wallace has one of the more unusual weight clauses we’ve seen. If, when Philly opens their offseason workout program on Monday, Wallace tips the scales at less than 250 pounds, he’ll earn a $585,000 bonus.

If you’re like us over here at ITI, you’re probably thinking how nice it would be if we were paid half of that to lose some weight. Well, unfortunately, we don’t play in the NFL.

Does anyone think this guy won’t make weight?

Weight clauses aren’t uncommon. We just don’t normally see them handed out to wide receivers. Normally, we’re trying to knock a few pounds off of one of the bigger guys.

According to the team’s official website, Wallace is listed at 200 pounds now, so this doesn’t appear to be an issue at all now. Does it?

With that being said, there’s no real indication as to why this language is in Wallace’s contract. Maybe Aaron Kasinitz of Penn Live is correct in his theory.

Maybe the Eagles organization, who had some salary cap issues, had the desire to create some wiggle room financially. Then again, it could be easier than that. Perhaps Philly just wanted to make sure Wallace stayed in shape. Whatever the case, it appears the Eagles’ new wide out gets a relatively easy pay day.
