Eagles: Carson Wentz says he isn’t going to change his playing style
We’ve now heard it from the horse’s mouth. Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has no intention of changing his playing style in 2018.
We’ve all said what we want Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz to do. Coaches have, no doubt, told him what they want him to do. Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie probably has his own theories on the subject. Still, after much discussion, we finally heard from Wentz, himself, on the second day of the Eagles’ offseason workout program. We can now claim to have some understanding on what he’s thinking.
He’s not playing in the preseason. He still intends to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. We also learned, despite the possibility of him wearing a brace for the remainder of his NFL career, he has no intention of changing his playing style. It was one of the last things he said before leaving a quick meeting with the media.
If you were watching his presser on the NFL Network, it was the last thing you heard, period.
This brings back some bad memories.
Injuries are a part of the game. Injuries to quarterbacks hurt a little more. Just ask any older Eagles fan about the Bryce Paup hit on Randall Cunningham in Week 1 of the 1991 NFL season. Philly went on to win 20-3 in that contest, but with no Cunningham, the theory was Philly’s season had come to an end early.
That theory turned out to be true, very disappointing news seeing as how the Eagles were one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl that year.

If you’re a little younger (or aging gracefully), you remember history that’s a little more recent. The Eagles lost Wentz in Week 14 of the 2017 season on a scramble into the end zone that ended up being called back anyway.
That play would have been played over and over in the minds of Eagles fans had it not been for a heroic playoff run by Foles and Wentz’s teammates that led to them raising the Lombardi Trophy by season’s end.
Who are we kidding? Eagles fans are still replaying that moment in their minds. Comments like Wentz’s most recent won’t help.
Expect some dialogue.
Wentz’s career with the North Dakota State Bison began with him watching a championship run from the sideline as a backup. Eventually, as a fifth-year senior, he became a standout and highly-touted NFL prospect before he got hurt. He’d return, just in time for the NCAA Division I-AA Championship Game, where he led the Bison to a fifth-straight title.

According to Wentz, he’s learned so much from every football moment, but fans can only hope he’s learned to protect himself a little better following this injury.
You can’t be mad about his competitive fire, but you can also expect his coaches to get into his ear a little following this statement.
