NFL.com put together a top-ten list of NFL offenses this week. Where do the Philadelphia Eagles land?

The NFL offseason is all but up wrapped up as of now. With the free agency period in the books, and the draft concluded, teams are finally reuniting for OTA’s. For the Philadelphia Eagles, they are heading back to work coming off of a short break due to performing in the Super Bowl. That’s just the new norm in Philadelphia, as Head Coach Doug Pederson calls it. But considering the Eagles are the Super Bowl Champs, do they head into the 2018 season considered the best team?

NFL.com recently put out a ‘power rankings’ of the top-ten offenses in the NFL. The Eagles finished 2017 off as a top-five team in all major offensive categories. But apparently, they aren’t viewed precisely as a powerhouse heading into 2018. Around the NFL writer, Chris Wesseling put together a list of the top offenses, along with position grades to back it up.

Where do the Eagles rank?

Believe it or not, the Eagles ranked as the seventh-best offense heading into 2018. Even with the injured Carson Wentz considered, they still do not top the list. Although being ranked seventh out of 32 teams isn’t exactly a snub, it is still difficult to figure the Eagles aren’t at least a top-five offense in the eyes of NFL analyst’s.

Here are their grades broken up by sectors:

Quarterback: A-

Backfield: B

Receiving Corps: B+

Offensive Line: A-

Is the position fair or accurate?

The Eagles number one strengths naturally come from the offensive line and the signal-caller(s). With Carson Wentz leaving 2017 as the MVP favorite, and Nick Foles being the reigning Super Bowl MVP, there truly is no argument there. However, the offensive line was undoubtedly the best, and that was even without Jason Peters for half of the season. The grade wasn’t exactly a dud, but we genuinely believe that there shouldn’t be any comparisons. The minus should’ve been scrapped.

As far as the other grades, they seem pretty fair. None of the Eagles receivers surpassed 1,000 yards last year, but they all played a very significant role throughout the season. The addition of Dallas Goedert and Mike Wallace might’ve even played a major factor in changing the grade of a B to a B-plus, considering they are both potentially an upgrade.

Next: Eagles sign former Redskins RB Matt Jones

As far as the backfield goes, the committee will be back together. Only this time, LeGarrette Blount is missing. Everybody knows that Blount played a significant role in the Super Bowl run, and his veteran leadership will truly be missed.

Heading into 2018, Jay Ajayi, Corey Clement, and Darren Sproles will collectively headline the backfield as another young prospect or two battle it out for a roster spot. You could argue that the backfield is possibly the biggest question mark on the Eagles offense. Seeing that it is viewed as an above-average position, the Eagles sure do have a good problem here.
