Former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten shouts out Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz.

The rivalry between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys has been one of the more intriguing rivalries in the NFC. Nowadays with Twitter just a click away, the fan bases clash like no other. Although the players seem to get more involved with the rivalry as well, there is always a mutual respect between NFL players. No matter what uniform the opponent wears, there is still a respectful outlook towards one another at the end of the day.

For the fanbases though, players that wears a rival’s uniform will likely be hated. It’s tough for any Eagles fan to show any amount of support for a player who wears the star. But there is a sort of secret code in football where you should give a round of applause to a player who has had a long and respectable career. No matter what colors they wear.

If there is one player from the Cowboys who has earned the respect of Philadelphia fans, it is the veteran tight end, Jason Witten. A few weeks back, the 36-year-old veteran called it quits after his 15th season in the NFL. While Eagles fans all over may have laughed at the timing of his retirement, they also put the hatred aside for a moment to show respect to the 15-year veteran.

Witten received tons of love from around the league over the last couple of weeks. Players and fans from all over reached out to congratulate him on a tremendous career. Eagles tight end Zach Ertz happens to be both, a player and a fan. And when Ertz reached out to Witten via Twitter, Witten made sure to show love back to the Eagles star.

Witten’s Response:

Witten’s personal shoutout to Ertz was very cool to see. As weird as it was to see NFC East rivals playing nice on social media, the friendly message to Ertz is inspiring. Finally, after expecting a breakout season from Ertz for his early years, he can finally be mentioned along with some of the better tight ends in football. And now his peers, along with some of the greats are starting to recognize that. Including Jason Witten.

Now, here’s to hoping Ertz can follow in Witten’s footsteps for a long and productive career. Witten might’ve missed out on a Super Bowl ring, but being an 11-time Pro Bowler, and two-time All-Pro is what Ertz should aspire to be. He got his ring and first Pro Bowl honors in 2017. Now, he is hopeful to keep it going beyond 2017.
