Greg Ward and Isaac Seumalo have been names to circle on the scorecard as the Philadelphia Eagles near training camp.

We’re nearing one of the few times of the NFL calendar year where there won’t be a whole lot going on. The Philadelphia Eagles are at the end of the OTA period. Thursday was their final practice. Now, they’ll meet for mandatory minicamp next week. That will last for three days (Tuesday through Thursday). Then, it’s vacation time until training camp rolls around.

That will be a sad time for all of us.

The curious case of Isaac Seumalo…

Isaac Seumalo is one of those guys we’ve all watched, whether intently or casually. One thing’s certain. Everyone’s hoping the 2016 NFL Draft’s 79th-overall selection can prove he can play at a starter’s level.

He probably won’t start, but everyone’s hoping he can show he has that ability.

Brandon Lee Gowton is a very recognizable name around the Philly area. His Bleeding Green Nation puts out quality information daily, and recently, he shared some of his observations on what he saw from Seumalo during the final portion of Eagles OTAs.

Here’s some of what was said:

"I found it interesting that the 2016 third-round pick was NOT lined up as the first team center in group install. Instead, it was Stefen Wisniewski filling in for Kelce while Chance Warmack was bumped up to left guard. Seumalo then took group install reps at second team right guard with Jon Toth working at center. Later in practice, Seumalo resumed his role as the guy snapping the ball in 7-on-7 drills. It seems like the team has soured on him. It’s possible they’re hoping to move him in a trade. Seumalo hasn’t been in the locker room during media availability sessions, so we haven’t been able to hear from him."

Let’s take a look at the wide receiver position.

More from Eagles News

It’s almost impossible to imagine a scenario where Alshon Jeffery, Mike Wallace, Nelson Agholor and Mack Hollins don’t make the Eagles’ 53-man final roster.

That means Greg Ward, Anthony Mahoungou, Markus Wheaton, Marquess Wilson, Bryce Treggs, Shelton Gibson and Rashard Davis are all battling for what’s probably going to be two roster spots.

Have Ward’s chances lessened?

Ward may have been one of the favorites originally, but the injury monster gobbled him up on the June 7th session of OTA practice.

NBCSports.com’s Dave Zangaro was present, and here’s his description of what happened. He recently shared some of his notes on OTAs:

"Greg Ward leaped up to try to catch a high pass from Carson Wentz during 7-on-7s and appeared to hurt his head/neck area. Ward was face down on the grass motionless as trainers checked for feeling in his extremities. Eventually, they flipped him on his back, helped him sit up and then stand and walk a couple short feet to the cart. Ward was able to sit in the front seat as the cart took him inside, so some good signs after an initially scary scene. Ward was in the locker room after practice walking around and even taking some shots on the pop-a-shot. He said he’s fine."

That’s good news for both Ward and the Philly faithful who are cheering for him. He’ll need to be one-hundred percent healthy if he has a shot to make the Eagles final roster for the 2018 season.
