The Philadelphia Eagles have the NFL’s best roster according to Pro Football Focus.

Love them or gate them, we can’t stop talking about Pro Football Focus and their unique grading system. Here we are again. Recently, they released their roster rankings, as they do every offseason, and the Philadelphia Eagles, after finishing 15th on Pro Football Focus’ list of the best NFL rosters in 2017, topped that same list for 2018.

The news comes courtesy of PFF and ESPN Insider.

Let’s take a closer look.

Here are some of what PFF sees as Philly’s biggest strength:

"As a part of the most dominant defensive front in football, Brandon Graham had the best year of his career in terms of sack total while continuing to cement his place as one of the most consistent edge defenders at producing pressure. For the second straight year, Graham registered an elite grade, and since 2012, he has averaged just 5.8 pass rushes per pressure generated, which is second to only Von Miller in that span."

Every great team has weaknesses and ‘The Birds’ are no exception to that rule. Here’s where PFF feels the biggest hole lies:

"The departure of Mychal Kendricks, who was the team’s highest-graded linebacker, leaves a question mark over the Eagles’ linebacking corps, with fifth-year player Corey Nelson set to fill the void. Nelson played only 43 snaps last season, and he ended the year with a grade of 64.4, his lowest since 2015."

Let’s sum all of this up.

We already knew Philly was deep. You don’t lose a special teams ace, one of your better running backs, your starting left tackle and your starting quarterback and go on to win a Super Bowl if you aren’t.

Those are just the losses they had on special teams and on offense. Philly also lost their starting and backup middle linebacker.

They’ve committed themselves to improving constantly. They’ve done so by drafting well and adding depth to some key spots thanks to the free agency period. Recent offseason moves have resulted in the addition of guys like running back Matt Jones, wide receiver Mike Wallace and defensive end Michael Bennett.

Now, the plan is to defend their title, this time with a healthy Carson Wentz, Jordan Hicks and Darren Sproles.

Next: Michael Bennett has another postponement in his arraignment

The Eagles are loaded, and everyone can see it, including the guys at EA Sports. They’re the guys responsible for one of the greatest franchises in the history of gaming, the Madden game. The next installment in that series is set for release on August 10th, and Philly has an overall ranking of 90.

One can only hope, if you’re a fan, that a super roster leads to yet another super finish at season’s end.
