Former Eagles head coach Andy Reid sends a message to Brian Dawkins
Andy Reid sent Brian Dawkins a message through the Philadelphia Eagles as he heads into the Hall of Fame!
We are counting down the days until Philadelphia Eagles legendary safety Brian Dawkins enters into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It didn’t take too long for the 44-year-old All-Pro safety to get voted into the NFL’s highest honors. While many fans of Dawkins’ believed that he would get snubbed year after year because of the media’s personal vendetta towards Philly, we were all proved to be wrong after Dawkins made it two years after being eligible to be voted in.
After being selected in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft, Dawkins was expected to take over the Eagles defense quite early on. This week for the first time, we heard about the pressure that was weighing on the future legends shoulders at the beginning of his career. Although Dawkins struggled mentally in his early years, he ultimately got through it and became perhaps one of the most critical players in Eagles history.
Not only was Dawkins a fan favorite in Philly, but he was also a coaches favorite. Recently, former Eagles head coach Andy Reid stepped in front of a camera to send a friendly message to his former defensive captain and safety. Check it out!
Big Red’s message to B. Dawk:
Everybody has seemed to put the Super Bowl smack talk aside for the week as everybody is reminiscing on the good old days when number 20 was in the secondary. The Eagles couldn’t accomplish the ultimate dream back in the early 2000’s when Dawkins was in his prime, but the opportunity to watch him play every Sunday was almost enough at the time for fans.
Andy Reid may no longer be the coach of the Eagles, but clearly his days in Philadelphia will forever be remembered. And although Reid wasn’t exactly a fan favorite all the time, it is still cool to see him reach out to the future Hall of Famer. It was especially awesome when Coach Reid threw in a mention about how the late Jim Johnson would be proud of Dawkins’ accomplishments.
Dawkins didn’t have many words for his former coach as he responded with a fist-bump emoji, but we have to assume he is probably saving the shoutouts for his speech this weekend. We can only imagine that Reid and the former staff of the Eagles will get their fair share of mentions in his speech. It’s only right that he gives credit where it’s due.
