Nick Foles misses another practice, and ‘The Birds’ release their first depth chart of 2018. It’s all here in this edition of Philadelphia Eagles roundup.

This just in. Expect a lot of Nate Sudfeld and Joe Callahan in the Philadelphia Eagles‘ first preseason game. You all know the deal by now. It’s been discussed time and time again. Carson Wentz isn’t quite ready to go, and Nick Foles missed his third-straight practice on Tuesday.

Philly won’t play either of their top two quarterbacks on Thursday when Philly meets the Pittsburgh Steelers for the first game of the preseason for both teams.

We’ll get our first taste of Sudfeld and Callahan, and it figures to be a pretty hefty helping.

According to Foles, it’s all good.

Foles’ absence comes as a result of muscle spasms in his trapezius and neck area. Don’t stress though. Philly’s QB1 of the moment made sure there was no reason to stress by the Philly media when he spoke to them after Tuesday’s practice.

“Sometimes, you throw so much, things get aggravated…. It’s not a big deal” said Foles. “We’re just being smart”.

Ladies and gents, we have a depth chart.

In other news out of ‘Birds’ camp, Philly’s released a depth chart. We may be a long way before we put a final roster together, but at least we have some idea of what the coaches are thinking. Here are a few of the highlights:

1. Darren Sproles takes his rightful place as the team’s top return man.

Earlier, we talked about whether or not Nelson Agholor and Sproles were the favorites to be the guys in the return game. Right now, Darren Sproles is, indeed, the number one guy at kick and punt returner.

Seeing what he’s done in the past, that isn’t a bad idea.

2. We’re serious Chris Maragos may not make this team.

Maragos has long been one of the mainstays on special teams. With the emergence of Tre Sullivan and the re-signing of Corey Graham, he’s the fifth safety on a roster where they probably won’t carry five safeties.

3. Avonte Maddox appears as though he may have a real shot.

Everyone’s been high on Maddox for a while. If things ended today, he’d be on the roster. Of course, things don’t end today. So far, so good though for the rookie.

4. Donnel Pumphrey’s still got work to do.

Coaches are high on Pumphrey, but they’re higher on Jay Ajayi, Corey Clement, Darren Sproles and Matt Jones. Sproles won’t be back in 2019, and Ajayi may be a cap casualty after this season.

Might Philly place Pumphrey on the practice squad one more season, or is this the last ride? He better make an impression on Thursday night.

5. It’s Greg Ward, not Bryce Treggs who’s making the charge.

It’s been a bad time for Bryce Treggs to have some physical ailments. ‘The Birds’ are stacked at wide receiver, and Greg Ward‘s been the most impressive guy after the shoo-ins, namely Alshon Jeffery, Mike Wallace, Nelson Agholor and Mack Hollins.

Markus Wheaton appears to be the favorite to win the fifth spot on the depth chart.

Game one of the preseason is upon us.
