Philadelphia Eagles news: Carson Wentz is cleared for contact, will start Sunday
It’s official. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has been cleared for contact. He figures to start in Week 3 versus the Colts.
The news came right after noon on the east coast of our great country. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announced to the Philly media and everyone who was watching live on YouTube, Twitter and, of course, Facebook. His quarterback, Carson Wentz, has been cleared for contact.
He figures to start in Week 3 versus the Indianapolis Colts. The question on everyone’s mind is a simple one. How ready will he be?
Looking good in pregame warmups and nice throws in practice with the red jersey on won’t guarantee any on-field success. Still, this is great news for the Eagles organization. Take a look at some of the tweets:

Now here’s the serious question. Who in the world is he going to throw the ball to?
Let’s take a quick look both back and ahead.

The story has been told thousands of times by now. On a routine scramble, Wentz tore his ACL and LCL in a late-season game versus the Los Angeles Rams less than twelve months ago. His dive into the end zone would be called back, but Wentz finished the drive and threw a touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery (who played the entire 2017 season with a torn rotator cuff).
Wentz wouldn’t throw another pass during the 2017-18 campaign.
Now, he’s back, but Jeffery, who’s still recovering from surgery to repair that rotator cuff, isn’t, and when Wentz steps back on the field, most of his supporting cast will be foreign. Mike Wallace has replaced Torrey Smith, but he may be out for the season. Mack Hollins is on IR. Dallas Goedert is the new guy.
That leaves Philly, currently, with DeAndre Carter, Nelson Agholor, Kamar Aiken and Shelton Gibson as their wide receivers. His left tackle, Jason Peters, left the game in Week 2 with an injury, and so did Jay Ajayi.
Peters said he’d be back for Week 3, but the jury’s still out on whether or not Darren Sproles will be back in Week 3. It’s time to cue the running game. No one wants to see Wentz diving at any pylons or any first-down markers, especially when Philly takes on the Rams at the L.A. Coliseum in Week 15.
