Ever since his departure, Jordan Matthews has joked around about a potential return later on down the line.

Many Philadelphia Eagles fan favorites have left on somewhat, weird terms over the years. Some big names like DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, and even Jordan Matthews have suddenly left the Eagles because of team decisions. In Matthews’ case, he was traded off to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for cornerback Ronald Darby. The move was nothing personal. It was just a no-brainer at the time as the Eagles were in desperate need of a solid cornerback for their struggling secondary.

Fast forward to over a year later, and Jordan Matthews is back like he never left. His last year wasn’t easy. He suffered multiple injuries with the Bills, which eventually ended his 2017 season prematurely as the Bills made it to the postseason. Matthews’ production wasn’t enough for the Bills front office to offer him an extension, so he was forced to play the free agency market.

Eventually, Matthews signed with the New England Patriots only to suffer another injury, unfortunately. Once again, Matthews was on the hunt for his fourth NFL team. Only to find out that he would actually re-sign with the team that drafted him in the first place, the Eagles.

Now that he’s back, Matthews admits that he has had some hypothetical conversations in a joking way with Carson Wentz about playing with each other once again later on down the line. Well, it didn’t take long for two to reunite as Matthews returned to the Nova Care Complex on Wednesday.

Matthews and Wentz dreamed it would happen:

When Carson Wentz found out that his buddy was being traded last offseason, he fired up his truck and drove Matthews to the airport to leave for Buffalo. Now, it’s like he sent him on an extended vacation as Matthews will wear Eagles green once again as if nothing changed.

A lot has changed though, obviously. The Eagles are Super Bowl Champions, for one. Also, Matthews will no longer rock his signature No. 81. Since Kamar Aiken snagged the number about a week ago, Matthews will be donning No. 80 on the field this week against the Indianapolis Colts instead.

For the sake of the passing game, we can only hope that we get to see the Wentz-Matthews signature touchdown celebration from 2016. The Eagles are going to need all the help they can get on offense this week with the return of Wentz. Hopefully, Matthews and Wentz can get back on the same page after not working with each other for over a year.
